Shop for Tina
Tina is building a Wood Shop!!
With the massive help of my father in law, Charles Turner and my beloved husband, Robert Turner I started construction on July 11, 2011. The shop is going to be 16 x 30 feet and have a 16 x 20 feet area for wood and sheet good storage. It is facing a gorgeous mountain view and is located in Madison, Virginia. As you can imagine, I am pretty excited about this new studio!!
Aside from finishing the concrete slab we will be doing the majority of the work ourselves.
We have already excavated, dug footers, and framed out the slab for the floor.
The concrete came, the framing of the walls happened, which also included building the rafters to connect to the roof of the existing building we are adding onto. We just finished putting the plywood on the roof and covered it with roofing paper so it wont leak. Roberts crew will be coming in to install a metal roof, incorporating some skylights for some natural lighting.
To keep the material costs at its lowest - besides building a lot from scratch - all the plywood we have been using so far for exterior walls and roof was reclaimed from an old tile factory, some of the doors, windows, metal for the outside walls, and other materials have been collected over the past few months, be they leftovers from odd jobs or from the back room of rejects at a local building supply place.
The heating, too, is designed to minimize costs. We will be putting in a wood stove to save on electricity and to utilize wood scraps that continually pile up.
Yet even taking all these measurements in saving by salvaging, scavenging and doing the majority of the work ourselves, building the shop is draining the wallet. We are about $5000 short in finishing the shop. This includes all the electrical wiring, outlets, switches, lighting, insulating the walls, finishing the inside walls and ceiling, building shelving, storage, racks, etc. Hence, i am trying to raise some money to finish things up.
This is how you can help me out: Any amount donated will help to reach the goal, be it $5.00 or $500.00
Why should you donate and help me in the building this shop? Whats in it for you besides being a supporter of the arts? Here are some perks that may spark your interest:

Relocated and Working
After Penland I moved to the small town of Orange VA. I am currently working in the shop of my friend Tom Flory in Madison, VA that he built in his retirement to learn some woodworking. He is hardly ever in his shop, so I get to make a mess of it on my own the majority of the time.
I started working in there the end of May, trying to get machinery and tools up to speed, so its slow in coming. Having gotten some commissions to work on I am hoping to keep it up and make some sort of living doing what I love. Let me know if there is anything I can build and make for you!
Commission Work will hopefully soon have a folder. So do come back and check out what I have been making
